Before we fit anything we check that the frame is square and level, and correct it where we can. We also leave small, even gaps around the door, typically a few millimetres, so timber can move with humidity and temperature without binding. The gap at the bottom is set to clear the finished floor, whether tiles, wood or carpet, which is why we ask about the floor before we cut.

Hinges carry the weight, so heavier doors need three or four and should be fixed into solid timber, not just board. We fit hinges that match the door weight and finish, and set them so the door stays where you leave it. For locks, we fit the type you choose, from a simple privacy latch to a multi-point entrance lock, and align the strike plate so the latch closes without force.

- Frame preparation. We correct the frame, or fit a new one, so the opening is square and plumb.
- Hanging. The door is hung, hinges set and gaps checked on all sides.
- Hardware and finish. The lock, handle and stoppers go on, and we touch up any marks.
- Final check. We open and close the door with you and adjust anything that is not right.
